Non-profit Education Organization at Clinics
Have an impact in a child's life that is severely impacted by a life-threatening illness. This non-profit organization provides stability and normalcy for the patient during hospitalization or treatment. Volunteers visit with children at the clinic, and teach English or math, lead recreational activities, music, arts and crafts, and more. Volunteers prepare lesson plans and materials, being as creative as possible, to help these children focus on activities rather than their illness.
Elementary School
Assist with English classes; facilitate arts and crafts activities as well as physical education classes. Organize after-school activities and field trips for the children, provide support, and act as a mentor.
Labor Laws and Human Rights
Promote international awareness of the workers' reality through emails, letters, and translation of advocacy materials. Assist with research or a documentary about the workers' lives. Help organize the donation of clothes, school materials, and educational information. Participate in recreational activities with the domestic workers and their children.
Non-Profit Organization for Business
Help support women in their small businesses. This organization is dedicated to promote micro-enterprise through teaching, mentoring, networking and advising. Volunteers work one-on-one with women to help them develop business and managerial skills that will allow them to run a successful business. Volunteers should be well-versed in US business practices such as how to open a business in the US, export products, development of business plans, marketing tools, and other business related practices. This is ideal for the student looking to obtain their MBA.
Non-Profit Youth Development Organization
Work with an organization headed by university students to develop the most impoverished areas of Peru. The organization works to construct emergency housing for families in need and build social empowerment among youths through education, micro-financing, community development and more. The over arching goal of the organization is to eliminate the shanty towns that so many of Peru's residents call home.
Christian Youth-Development Organization
This International Christian Organization is dedicated to development, humanitarian aid and child advocacy with the goal to reduce poverty and injustice in the world. Participants may work out in the field to promote development in Peru's impoverished communities through education, health and nutrition, life skills and entrepreneurial development projects. In the office participants are invited to assist the staff in research, social development and data analysis.
Youth Development Organization
This organization aims to create leaders and responsible young adults who will organize their peers to be agents of social change in the further development of their local community, region and country. Participants are encouraged to share their ideas and create new initiatives and goals for their time with the organization.
Christian Community Development Organization
This organization developed by the Catholic Church aims to promote and encourage programs for the poor and facilitate the development of the most impoverished regions of Peru. Along with the help of volunteers, this organization promotes development of towns and remote communities throughout the country, giving priority to the poorest sectors of the population that lack basic infrastructure in areas such as health, education, potable water, sanitation and roads.
Nursing Home
This organization specializes in the care and treatment of geriatric patients to provide them with a positive and soothing environment in which to relax and recuperate. The organization provides 24-hour nursing care, occupational therapy and rehabilitation and pharmaceutical services. Participants will assist the staff with patient care as well as providing a smiling face and an ear to listen.
All individual placement participants complete an
ELAP Portfolio as part of their program.
